Sayuri Kokusho (国生さゆり)

Sayuri Kokusho (国生さゆり)

Onyanko Club member #8. Although the Onyanko Club members all had equal status in the group, Sayuri was the unofficially acknowledged leader. She sang lead on numerous Onyanko Club songs and sometimes had them singing back-up for her solo songs. When the Onyanko Club guest starred on Sukeban Deka II on the episode "Onyanko Club o Zennin Zuchu", Sayuri had a featured role. The highlight of the show was when she led the Onyanko Club on her song "Valentine Kiss", her best and most popular song. Sayuri once challenged herself by riding her motorcycle across the United States.

Minayo Watanabe (渡辺 美奈代)

Minayo Watanabe (渡辺 美奈代)

Onyanko Club member #29. One of the more successful members of the massive member Onyanko Club, Minayo went solo in 1986 with a built-in following from OC. She debuted her solo career with "Hitomi ni Yakusoku" which became her signature song. Her numerous hits included "Too Adult", "Pink no Chao", Girls on the Roof", "Daite Ageru", "Chotto Fallin' Love", and "Ii ja nai" to name just a few. During the late 80's, Minayo was such a popular idol that she was considered one of "The Big Three", along with Yoko Minamino and Yui Asaka. Her concerts were always sold out. For some reason, while her popularity was still strong, she decided to make a bunch of cheap B-movies and nudie books, and went downhill from there. Go figure. Minayo has since gotten married and led a quiet life but very recently came temporarily out of retirement to be a part of "Super Idol Concert Series" featuring the top idols of the late 80s.

Onyanko Club member #16. Another former member of the multi-member Onyanko Club, and one half of Ushiroyubi Sasareyubi (with Yukiko "Yuyu" Iwai), Mamiko went solo for a short time, scoring top ten hits with "Jonetsu Rainbow" (great song by the way - get it!) and "Tender Rain" before opting for a retired married life.

Onyanko Club - Last Stage - Saitama - 1987 - yumeki.org

Iwai "Yuuyu" Yukiko (岩井 由紀子) - Wikipedia

Onyanko Club member #19. The littlest Nyan Nyan. An alumus of the Onyanko Club, and one half of Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi (along with Mamiko Takai), her unusually young looks (I thought she was 10 years old when I first saw her!) and slightly eclectic behavior got her a loyal following and a top ten hit "-3ºC". Her other signature song was "Tenshi no Bodyguard" which featured the Onyanko Club as backup vocals. Towering at a staggering 4'11", Yuuyu made many TV commercials. Pretty wacky stuff. Did I already say she was a bit off?
